With the leaves falling north of the 49th Parallel (Canada!), October is a good time to review what our Suzuki team has developed and what we aspire together to create for our Canadian Suzuki future.

Committee Development

Expanded in the last year to 3 committees:

  • Canadian Suzuki e-Newsletter Committee, 
  • Canadian Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Committee
  • Canadian Suzuki Visioning Committee. 

A total of 24 people on these committees, with additional teams of volunteers

Meetings:

  • Weekly and bi-weekly meetings throughout 2020 and 2021
  • Hosted 2 National All-Canadian Zoom Meetings to share current events and information with Canadian Suzuki Teachers
  • 3 meetings for Institute Directors and Teacher Trainers in 2020/2021 to support and discuss concerns
  • 1 online conference—“The Great Canadian Patio” - to develop relationships and enjoy social time in May, 2021
  • 1 meeting for Canadian Program Directors to share resources and ideas for all programs across Canada
  • Not least: at last count, 2000+ cups of tea & coffee shared across 6 time zones!!!!

Teacher Training

  • 28 individual units offered in Canadian Suzuki Institutes in summer 2021
  • More than 8 individual units offered online throughout the 2020-2021 year
  • Long-term Teacher Training
  • Numerous offerings of ECC

We celebrate our ‘Stats Board’ above. But we know there is much work to be done in developing our Canadian Suzuki network of teachers to better reflect the diversity and breadth of teachers in our country including finding ways to support families and aspiring teachers who face challenges due to race, economics, disabilities or geographical isolation (in addition to the fallout from COVID).
