William Dick
In 1994 the American String Teachers’ Association named William Dick its national “Music Educator of the Year”. He began his teaching career at the University of Wisconsin/Stevens Point as Instructor of Viola and conductor of the University Symphony. Mr. Dick served as co-editor of the public school column of the American Suzuki Journal, as coordinator of the Suzuki in the Schools area for the Seventh SAA Conference and served as viola coordinator for the 2002 International Suzuki Teacher’s Conference. In October of 1999, Mr. Dick was presented a “Music of the Heart” Educator Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Sony Corporation, and the National Coalition for Music Education. Mr. Dick retired from the Austin Independent School District in 2001 after twenty-seven years. In the fall of 2002 he joined the faculty of Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, as visiting instructor of violin/viola and music education. Most recently the SAA sanctioned Mr. Dick as a Teacher Trainer for Suzuki in Schools.
