January 3 through 10, 1993, Santiago College in Santiago, Chile will be the site of the first part of the 1993 South American Suzuki Festival. The event is sponsored and coordinated by the Suzuki Association of Chile, Concepcion Martorell, President, with the assistance of Marilyn O’Boyle, Director of Strings, and Caroline Blondet Fraser, Director of Piano. During the eight-day course, the following Teacher Training Units will be offered:
Violin—Unit lA, IB (with a preview of 2) and 3 (with a preview of 4) Marilyn O’Boyle.
Piano—Unit lA, IB (with a preview of 2) and 3 (with a preview of 4) Caroline Blondet-Fraser and Roberta Centurion.
Cello—lA, IB and 4 – Marilyn O’Boyle and Annika Petrozzi.
Guitar - lA and IB—Frank Longay.
Recorder—lA and IB – Jonathan Crick and Lucia Nieto.
For four days, young Suzuki students, ages 3 through 17, will participate in the Festival, taught by the U.S. Teacher Trainers as well as teachers from Chile and Peru~’ Master classes, small group and large group classes will be offered on violin, cello, piano, guitar and recorder. Students will also participate in recitals, orchestra, pre-reading and other enrichment activities. Parents will be able to participate in discussion groups and playing classes. The Festival will end with a Gala Concert and the announcement of the winner of the Sony Scholarship for one year study in Matsumoto awarded each year to an outstanding Chilean violinist.
January 14 through 21, Colegio Roosevelt in Lima, Peru will be the site of the second part, of the 1993 South American Suzuki Festival. This event is sponsored and coordinated by the Suzuki Association of Peru, Rober ta Centurion, President, with the assistance of Marilyn O’Boyle, Director of Strings, and Caroline Blondet Fraser, Director of Piano. During the eight-day course the following Teacher Training Units will be offered:
Violin—Unit lA and Enrichment Course (Important Teaching Concepts in Suzuki Books One through Five) -Marilyn O’Boyle and Roberta Centurion.
Piano—Unit lA, IB (with a preview of 2) and 3 (with a preview of 4). Caroline Blondet-Fraser and Roberta Centurion.
Cello—Unit lA, IB and 2 – Marilyn O’Boyle and Annika Petrozzi.
Guitar—lA and IB—Frank Longay.
Recorder—lA and IB – Jonathan Crick and Lucia Nieto.
Four days of this Festival will also include participation of young Suzuki students, ages 3-17, on violin, piano, cello, guitar and recorder, taught by the U.S. teachers as well as teachersfrom Peru and Chile. Students will receive master classes, small and large group classes, as well as orchestra, prereading or other enrichment classes, and student recitals. Parents will participate in discussion groups and playing classes. Another Gala Concert will bring the Festival to a close.
