Mr. Zhengdong Liang

Chinese-Canadian violinist Zhengdong Liang (Zane) is praised as a musician with rich musicality and incredible talent while he performed across the globe. In 2022, Zane joined the National Arts Center Orchestra (Ottawa, Canada) as the youngest member at the time. 

Born in Guangzhou, China, Zane began to learn the violin at the age of three from his grandfather. At the age of sixteen, he immigrated to Canada and continued his musical studies in Edmonton. Zane holds a master’s degree from the Mannes School of Music in New York City, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ottawa. His teachers include Frank Ho, Yehonatan Berick, Yosuke Kawasaki, and Shmuel Ashkenasi. His music education was generously supported by Edmonton Community Foundation for six consecutive years and with prestigious scholarships from each institution.

Zane is an avid soloist and orchestral musician. He has most recently served as a concertmaster of New World Symphony (Miami), and The Orchestra Now (NY). In addition, he was a member of the New York String Orchestra Seminar and has toured worldwide with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as an active chamber and an orchestral musician. Zane has performed in numerous venues including the Xinghai Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Roy Thomson Hall, Winspear Center, Konzerthaus Berlin and many more; notable collaborations include Hilary Hann, Gabriela Montero, Gil Shaham, Christian Tetzlaff, James Ehnes, Martin Fröst, Jörg Widmann, Stéphane Denève, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Alexander Shelley.

Outside of the performing schedule, Zane has been actively building his private studio since 2011. His philosophy of teaching is that learning has to be joyful and relaxing. He believes that all students are unique, therefore striving to create a friendly environment where students can reach their full potential. His musical knowledge is not limited to violin but also sight-singing and music theory. Numerous of his students passed the Royal Conservatory of Music’s examination with good grades and fulfilled their musical dream.
