Willis Koa
Cello Teacher
Willis Koa is a teacher and performer based in Farmington Hills. He first began teaching in 2013 while serving as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee. During his time at UT, he began his training in Suzuki Method and incorporates it into his teaching methodology.
As a performer, Willis plays with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra and has been a member since 2015. He is former Assistant Principal of Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the West Michigan Symphony. He frequently performs with other regional orchestras throughout central and west Michigan.
Willis has completed a year of Doctoral studies at Michigan State University. He earned his Master of Music in cello performance from University of Tennessee, and Bachelor of Music in performance from Western Michigan University. He has studied with Suren Bagratuni, Dr. Wesley Baldwin, and Bruce Uchimura.
