Dr. Tyler Hendrickson began as a Suzuki piano student at age six, adding Suzuki viola at age 9. He has trained with some of the best teachers in the country and brings an authentic understanding of the potential of a Suzuki piano and viola student. Hendrickson is deeply versed in Suzuki Pedagogy, having registered 20 core training units with the Suzuki Association of the Americas including multiple units with Mary Craig Powell (Chair of the International Suzuki Piano Committee) and William Preucil, Sr (Recording Artist of the Suzuki Viola School) . He has been praised not only for his playing, but also his ideas, energy and understanding of Suzuki pedagogy. He has given multiple conference presentations for the Iowa String Teachers Association, the American String Teachers Association, and for the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Prior to college, Hendrickson studied at the internationally recognized Preucil School of Music, one of the original five Suzuki Schools in the US. There he completed the Certificate Program, a rigorous program emphasizing music theory and history in addition to solo and chamber music playing, with Performing Honors.

Hendrickson holds a B.A. in Music from Luther College, a M.M. from Wichita State University and a D.M.A. from the University of Iowa. He has spent summers as a scholarship student at Rocky Ridge Music Center and Interlochen Arts Camp, and was a fellowship recipient at the internationally renowned Aspen Music Festival and School. Additionally he has participated in workshops, classes and master classes in both harpsichord and fortepiano, broadening his perspective and approach to music composed between 1600 and 1800. He has held positions with the Wichita Symphony and LaCrosse Symphony Orchestras.

Hendrickson has taught across the country and worked with students aged 3 through 80. He has taught college students at Wichita State University and the University of Oregon. He has taught with numerous Suzuki programs including the Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts and Northwest Indiana Suzuki Conservatory, and served as the Piano Department Head at the Talent Education Suzuki School. He currently teaches piano with the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City and Viola and Violin at Schultz Strings in Cedar Rapids, IA. His students have gone on to honor orchestras, All-State orchestras, and performed at University of Oregon Basketball Games, the Iowa State Fair, and Carnegie Hall.
