Tanya Hambourg comes from a musical family. Tanya’s great uncle was the world famous pianist, Mark Hambourg. His recordings can be heard on YouTube. Her grandfather was a classical and jazz pianist. Tanya’s father was a professional violinist and her violin teacher. She started learning the violin at age 6 via the Suzuki Method and she played in a masterclass with Dr. Suzuki in Oregon. In High School, Tanya also learned viola. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Viola Performance from Boston University where she received a Director’s Award. Her viola teachers include Michael Zaretsky, Raphael Hillyer, and Steven Ansell.

As a professional violist, Tanya performed with numerous orchestras in the New England area including as Principal Violist of the Cape Ann and Symphony by the Sea Orchestras. In addition, she performed with various popular artists including Smokey Robinson, Johnny Mathis, and Sarah Brightman, among others. In Louisiana, she performed as a substitute violist with the Louisiana Philharmonic orchestra and as a free lance violist for many weddings and events in the French Quarter and surrounding area.

Tanya began teaching the Suzuki Method at the Whitinsville Christian School where she had a large class of private violin and viola students. In addition, she taught the beginning and intermediate Suzuki Viola group classes. At the Creative Arts School, she was a Suzuki and Traditional Violin and Viola Instructor and taught the Pre-Twinkle Suzuki Violin group class. At her own studio in Louisiana, all her students received superior ratings at the Junior Festival and one or more each year were chosen to play for the Honors Recital.

Tanya currently teaches Suzuki and Traditional Violin students at the Nevada School of the Arts where she also teaches the Suzuki Violin group class. She also teaches at Doorstep Music Lessons. Tanya has been teaching the Suzuki Method since 1998. Her first student was age 5 and is still playing the violin. Tanya’s Suzuki violin students have received First Prize and Honorable Mention at the Silver State Competition. Tanya is gifted in teaching young students beginning at age 4. Her Suzuki Teacher Trainers include Stevie Sandven, Teri Einfeldt, Vera McCoy Soulentic, Rhonda Cole, Karen Kimmet and David Strom. Tanya’s personal teaching mission is to encourage the joy of music in each student and to provide excellent instruction.
