Dr. Samara Humbert-Hughes
Viola, Violin Teacher
Dr. Samara Humbert-Hughes relocated back her home state of Arizona in the summer of 2020 to join the Chandler United School District as an Elementary Orchestra Teacher. From 2015-2020 she served as the Director of the Suzuki Academy of Columbia (formerly Suzuki Strings at USC) in Columbia, SC and on the Board of the Suzuki Association of South Carolina. While in Columbia, Dr. Humbert-Hughes taught for the Suzuki Academy as an instructor of violin, viola and chamber music and was also an adjunct instructor in at the University of South Carolina School of Music.
Prior to living in SC, Dr. Humbert-Hughes lived in England where she taught private and group class lessons with the Cambridge Suzuki Groups and at Royal Air Force Mildenhall. Dr. Humbert-Hughes has also taught at the Centenary Suzuki School at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA from and served as its Acting Director from 2009-2011. Additional teaching positions include a private studio and work with Community Music Institute in Eugene, Oregon and a private studio in Mesa, Arizona.
Alongside her teaching schedule, Dr. Humbert-Hughes has been an active performer on violin and viola with the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Cambridge Philharmonic, the East Anglian Chamber Orchestra, the Shreveport Symphony, the Baroque Artists of Shreveport, the Texarkana Symphony, the Longview Symphony, the Shreveport Opera Orchestra, the Eugene Symphony, and the Oregon Mozart Players. Dr. Humbert-Hughes holds a DMA and MM in Viola Performance with a supporting area in String Pedagogy from the University of Oregon, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Arizona State University.
