Miss. Samantha M. Kerns
Cello Teacher
Samantha completed her Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a concentration in Cello Performance Cum Laude where she studied with Meredith Blecha-Wells. She recently graduated with her Masters from Oklahoma State as a graduate teaching assistant for the Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University. During her undergraduate degree, she won the Oklahoma State University Concerto Competition and performed as soloist with the OSU Symphony Orchestra in early February 2018. She also won first place in the Ad Astra String Competition in February of 2018 and second in 2017.
Sam has been accepted into a number of festivals such as Brevard Summer Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival and Hot Springs Music Festival. In 2021, she won a year contract with the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. Since 2021, she has substituted regularly with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic during the seasons as well. Her future goals include building a private cello studio utilizing Suzuki and Traditional principles, providing music for events such as weddings and galas, and playing with local orchestras. In her free time she enjoys gardening, cooking and camping.
Samantha is a dedicated teacher and completed the Suzuki Cello Units 1 through 6 from the Chicago Suzuki Institute and studied mainly with Shu-Yi Scott. While teaching cello privately, Samantha has taught students all the way from 5 years old to adult beginners and accepts all levels of students. Her students have attended North Central Honors Orchestra (NCHO), the OSU Summer Music Camp, the Arkansas Summer Music Camp, and CelloFest at OSU. She currently resides in Edmond, Oklahoma where she teaches a private cello studio, as well as travels to Stillwater once a week to teach students as well.
