Dr. Sally Sloane

Sally Sloane has a D.M.A. in organ and harpsichord from the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, an M.M. in organ from American Conservatory, and a B.M. degree in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is Minister of Music at Riverside Presbyterian Church and maintains a private piano studio in her Oak Park home. She has taught piano by the Talent Education (Suzuki) method since 1978, having studied with some of the legendary founders and leaders of the Suzuki method such as: Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, Haruko Kataoka, Yasiko Joichi, Doris Koppelman, Valery Lloyd-Watts, Carole Bigler and Marilyn Andersen. From 1979 until 1987 she sang with the Chicago Choral Artists under the direction of the late James Rogner. Dr. Sloane has served on the faculties of Sherwood Conservatory of Music, The Suzuki Music Academy of Chicago, and Hinsdale Public Schools District 181. In 1991 her doctoral dissertation: Music for two or More Players at One or More Keyboard Instruments (Harpsichord, Clavichord, Organ) was published by Greenwood Press. Her piano students have gone on scholarships to study music at Northwestern University, Augustana College, Eastman, DePaul, Berklee, Yale, NYU and Rutgers and some now have careers as professional musicians. Sally is also a wife, mother and former Suzuki mom(3x) — married to a former rock musician and mother to three young men (who all love music).
