Mr. Richard Lohmann

Rick Lohmann is co-director (with Margaret Carpenter) of Santa Fe Talent Education, where he teaches violin and viola. He has had a long career as a teacher, violinist and conductor. For fifteen years he was concertmaster of the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. He has served on the faculty at Morningside College, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Eastern Music Festival, and Rocky Ridge Music Center, and was performing artist with the Cabrillo Music Festival, the Telluride Chambe Music Festival, Colorado Music Festival and the Peninsula Music Festival, among others. He has taught at the Lincoln Suzuki Institute, is on the faculty of the New Mexico Suzuki Institute, and is former music director of the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association.

Rick teaches at all levels, and will have a limited number of openings for beginners in fall 2018.

He co-founded Omaha Talent Education, helping build the program from scratch in 1999 to over 85 students in 2003. His SAA Suzuki violin training (through violin Book 9, plus two practicums) is with Marilyn O’Boyle, Joanne Bath, Pat D’Ercole, Nancy Lokken, Liz Arbus, Sue Baer and Nancy Jackson; his viola teacher training is with Julia Hardie. In the past few years, he has been guest clinician at workshops in Houston, Amarillo, and Las Cruces.

He holds degrees from Oberlin College and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and did postgraduate work at the Banff Centre for the Arts Winter Program. He is a member of the Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra.
