Rebekah Carlson

Rebekah Carlson is a Suzuki violin and viola teacher and freelance violinist. She has been a section violinist for the North Carolina Opera Orchestra, the Carolina Ballet, the Durham Choral Society, and the NC Master Chorale, and has freelanced with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Greensboro Symphony. Rebekah is also an active chamber music performer, presenting concerts at Duke University in their faculty series, as well as several area venues. Rebekah studied with Lee Joiner and holds a degree in violin performance from Wheaton College (IL). While at Wheaton, she won the conservatory concerto competition and participated in master classes with the Emerson String Quartet, Stephen Clapp, Kevin Lawrence, Peter Slowik and Rachel Barton Pine. She has studied pedagogy with Nancy Lokken, Ann Montzka Smelser, Charles Krigbaum, Pat D’Ercole, Kirsten Marshall, Joanne Bath, Libby Armour, Stevie Sandven, and Sharon Miller. Rebekah has participated in the Starling-DeLay Symposium on Violin Studies at the Juilliard School, and is also a certified Music Together teacher. She has taught at the NC Suzuki State-wide Play-in and is a frequent clinician at several regional workshops. Rebekah arranges frequent local performance opportunities for her students, and she has also taken her students on performance tours to Austria, Germany, Italy, and Ireland. Her students have held leadership positions in their school orchestras, N.C. All-State and All-County Orchestras, the Mallarmé Youth Chamber Orchestra, the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestras, and the Winston Salem Youth Orchestras, and have been accepted to the North Carolina School of the Arts and the North Carolina Governor’s School. Rebekah is proud to have students majoring in several different disciplines in prestigious colleges and universities across the U.S., with almost all of her graduates involved in music at the college level, whether they’re majoring in music performance, public health, history or applied math!  Rebekah also writes music history curricula, with two books published thus far on Schumann and Mozart. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling with her family. Rebekah moved to Greensboro, NC in 2016 and is currently accepting new students.
