Rebecca Ruthven
Violin, Viola Teacher
Violinist and violist Rebecca Ruthven is Principal Second Violin of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. An active chamber musician, she has performed with Vetta Chamber Music and is a member of the Gallo Chamber Players and Vancouver Baroque Trio.
Rebecca teaches private lessons and group classes inspired by Suzuki, RCM, and Teach Music 21C philosophies. She is a strings coach with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra and has coached chamber music at summer programs at the Vancouver Academy of Music and Victoria Conservatory. She is committed to enabling students at every age and level to achieve their musical goals, to find meaning in music-making, and to connect with the broader musical community.
Originally from Kelowna, Rebecca studied violin with Mark Fewer, Nancy DiNovo, Chloe Meyers, Ken Stromberg, and Heilwig von Koenigsloew. She holds Bachelor’s degrees in Violin Performance and Biochemistry from McGill University. Recent summer festivals include SoundSCAPE in Switzerland, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and Tafelmusik Baroque Institutes. An alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, she was a member of the Canada India Youth Orchestra project in Bangalore and is a recipient of the Stephen Sitarski Leadership Award. She studies baroque violin thanks to Early Music Vancouver’s Scholarship Programme.
