Dr. Rebecca K. Plautz

Rebecca Plautz has maintained a private studio since 1996 in the Carolinas and in Rexburg, Idaho. She has been on faculty at Southwest Missouri State University, Meredith College, Brigham Young University Idaho, and currently teaches in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. She is registered through Suzuki Cello Book 10, having received training from Barbara Wampner, Carol Tarr, Gilda Barston, Rick Mooney, Pam Devenport, and Nancy Hair. Her students have received top awards in local, state, and national competitions and have consistently been awarded seats in North Carolina’s Philharmonic Association orchestras, the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony, and state and regional honors orchestras. She has played in the Springfield (Missouri) Symphony, the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Florence (South Carolina) Symphony where she was co-principal, the Raleigh Symphony, and the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra. Chamber music coaches include Percy Kalt, David Dalton, and Fritz Magg. In 1997, in association with the Black Creek Arts Council, she founded the Southside Suzuki Strings program which made violin and cello studies available to all kindergarten-aged children in Hartsville, South Carolina. With interests in both voice and cello from an early age, she has cultivated both instruments throughout her life. She holds the Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University in Voice Performance where she studied with Camilla Williams, though cello has been her primary instrument in more recent years, her teachers including Terry King, Suzanne McIntosh, Helga Winold, Bob Jesselson, and Brooks Whitehouse.
