Ms. Michiko Yurko
Piano Teacher
Piano, ECC Teacher Trainer
Hello! I am Michiko Yurko, an SAA Teacher Trainer and an independent Suzuki piano teacher living in Kensington, Maryland. I have been teaching for 50 years and continue to find joy, fulfillment, and a boundless gratitude to Dr. Suzuki.
I am the creator of Music Mind Games, a published method of teaching music literacy and theory using games (musicmindgames.com). I have been fortunate to travel to many countries and nearly every state in the US to teach at music workshops, lead teacher training courses, and speak at conferences. Over the course of my travels, I have met many wonderful children, parents, and teachers.
Publications: Music Mind Games Unit 1 (2020), Music Mind Games (Warner Bros. Publications 1992), Musopoly, No H in Snake: Music Theory for Children (Alfred Publishing Co., Inc. 1979), the Puppy Packet, Panda Melody, Panda Rhythm, and joint author of Teaching Suzuki Piano: Ten Teacher’s Viewpoints (Warner Bros. Publications 1998). I am featured in “Who’s Who in America,” “Who’s Who in American Education,” and “Who’s Who in American Women”.
I enjoy being a Suzuki teacher because I love both Dr. Suzuki’s philosophies and classical music. In addition to learning music theory and becoming proficient readers, I want my students to experience the joys of learning how to play piano with confidence and musicality. Sharing these concepts with children and parents continues to inspire and elevate my quality of life.
