Megan Boyle

Megan has taught private cello lessons full time for 15 years and has maintained a large and active studio of cellists ranging from very young beginners to advanced pre-college students. After teaching in the Utah Suzuki community for 15 years, Megan has relocated to Colorado and is now teaching in Colorado Springs.

A native of Tucson, Arizona, Megan began Suzuki piano lessons at age 4, and later Suzuki cello at age 8 with Mary Beth Tyndall. Megan completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Cello Performance at Brigham Young University. Her principal teachers include Mary Beth Tyndall, Gordon Epperson, Gayle Smith and Julie Bevan. As a student, she attended Interlochen Arts Camp, Indiana University String Academy and Meadowmount School of Music where she studied with Hans Jorgen-Jensen. She has performed in many orchestras, chamber groups, has appeared as a soloist with orchestra and as a freelance performer. Megan is currently performing and working on a recording project with her harp, violin and cello trio.

As a teacher, Megan is known for her enthusiasm and infectious love of the cello, patience in working with many learning styles and personalities, and an emphasis on technique, tone and musicality even with young students. Megan is passionate about teaching and is former cello faculty at Snow College and BYU. Megan taught in Provo, Utah for 15 years, building a large and active private studio of over 60 cellists of all ages and levels. Many of her current and former students have gone on to pursue degrees in cello performance and have won scholarships to university music programs and summer music camps and have won concerto competitions and honors at local music festivals.

Megan has extensive experience working with special needs cello students, including students on the Autism spectrum, students with hearing loss and other special needs. She also has extensive experience working with adaptive cello students (players with limb differences).

In addition to private cello lessons and Suzuki cello group classes, Megan also coaches a summer piano trio workshop for student ensembles with her piano trio, as well as an advanced cello choir workshop for high school students each winter. During her years in Utah, Megan was active in the Utah Valley musical community and served as the Chairman of the Utah Valley String Festival and as the Managing Director of the Utah Valley Cello Society. She has taught at the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute in Draper, Utah as both cello and chamber faculty. In 2016 she was a guest artist at the Tucson Cello Congress held at the University of Arizona.

In addition to her involvement in music, Megan enjoys hiking, cooking, traveling, exploring Colorado Springs, and spending time with her husband and stepson.

Megan is now accepting new students in Colorado Springs, CO. She works with students of all ages and levels, from very young pre-Twinkle students, to school age cello students, pre-college advanced students and also works with adult beginners.
