Violin, Viola Teacher
Marta Hernández is a professional violist, violin Suzuki and early childhood educator and a certified music therapist. From the beginning of her career, she has been using music education as a tool to improve the quality of life of families. She is currently a professor of the Graduate Program in Music Education at the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico. She also has a Suzuki violin studio and works in music therapy programs in hospital and women victims of domestic violence groups.
Marta holds a PhD in Music Education from University of Granada, MM in String Pedagogy from Temple University, MM in Music Therapy from Illinois State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in viola performance from Temple University.
As a violist, she has played for the Puerto Rico Symphony, Illinois Symphony among other orchestras. As an early childhood music educator, she has co-written Despertar Musical, a training music education Method and has several articles published . As a music therapist, Marta has initiated the development of music therapy in the island.
