Mrs. Marilyn Marks Taylor
Violin Teacher
Originally from Lynchburg, Virginia, violinist Marilyn Marks Taylor has studied under leading professors, including Ivan Zenaty, Juliana Athayde, Zvi Zeitlin, and Charles Castleman, and has performed in master classes and studied with members of the Vermeer, Audubon, Cavani, Ying, and Chiara String Quartets.
Marilyn earned her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the Eastman School of Music in 2012. While at Eastman she performed with many ensembles, including the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman Philharmonia, where she served as Principal Second Violin during the 2011 – 2012 academic year. Marilyn has performed in the Eastman Honors Chamber Music Recital in the spring of 2011 and 2012 and was selected to perform in the first annual Eastman Graduation Chamber Music Recital in May of 2012. During her undergraduate studies she was also a member of the Eastman Intensive Chamber Music Seminar.
Marilyn earned her Master of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2014, where she served as concertmaster of the CIM orchestra. She is currently the Development Coordinator and a section player in the Akron Symphony Orchestra. She spent her summers studying at the Vocal Arts and Music Festival at Virginia Tech, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Castleman Quartet Program, Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Meadowmount School of Music, and Eastern Music Festival.
Marilyn has taught strings courses at St. Ignatius High School and Birchwood School of Hawken, and served as Program Director and faculty member at Coda Mountain Academy Summer Music Festival, in Fayetteville, WV from 2015 to 2018. She is trained and registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and is certified through Unit 4 of the Suzuki Violin literature. Marilyn currently resides in Cleveland Heights, Ohio with her husband, violinist Julian Taylor.
