Louise Scott Professor of Violin and Pedagogy, Emerita in the School of Music at Northern Arizona University. She received a BM in Education and a MM in Violin Performance with Walter Verdehr at Michigan State University with further work at Indiana University with Josef Gingold. In 1980, she completed DMA in Violin Performance at the University of Arizona where she studied with John Ferrell. She completed Suzuki teacher training with John Kendall at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Dr. Scott has been a member of the Aspen Festival, Lansing MI, New Jersey, North Carolina, Memphis, and Tucson Symphony. She was Concertmaster of the Arizona Opera since 1993 a Concertmaster of the Flagstaff Symphony since 1985. She remains an active member of the Flagstaff Symphony as Associate Concertmaster. In addition to her orchestral work, she performs chamber music with colleagues and her husband, Frank Scott, who is Emeritus Director of the Piano Program at NAU.
Dr. Scott has presented master classes, workshops and clinics across the country, especially with advanced students in the Suzuki method. Summer workshops include the Hawaii Suzuki Institute, the NAU Suzuki Institute, the Alaska Suzuki Institute, the Black Hills South Dakota Advanced String Camp, the Oregon Suzuki Institute, the Stanford Advanced String Camp, the Southern California Suzuki Institute, and the Curry Summer Music Camp at NAU.
She has been actively involved in national string teaching organizations, including the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the American String Teachers Association, serving as President of the Arizona ASTA from 1990 to 1992 and presently serves on the board of the Arizona Suzuki Association. As a Violin Teacher Trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Dr. Scott has provided Suzuki training to many students who are now teaching in schools and programs across the country.
Dr. Scott was awarded the Northern Arizona University Distinguished Faculty Award in 1992, membership in Phi Kappa Phi in 1996 and the Arizona American String Teacher Association Outstanding Studio Teacher Award in 2011. She served as the Director of the School of Music at NAU from 2002 to 2006.
