Lindsay Stipe

Cellist, Lindsay Stipe is a teacher and chamber musician based in Durham, NC. She earned her Master’s degree in cello performance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as cellist of the UMass Graduate String Quartet and teaching assistant to Astrid Schween, now cellist of the Juilliard String Quartet. Lindsay completed her Bachelor of Music degree at UNC Chapel Hill under the instruction of Brent Wissick, studied chamber music performance in Vienna, Austria with Josef Luitz, and has studied with internationally recognized recording artist, Nancy Green.

Lindsay served as principal cellist of both UNC and UMass Symphony orchestras and has performed professionally in a variety of settings including the Faculty Chamber Music Series at Interlochen, the Five College New Music Festival in Amherst, MA, and most recently with her piano trio at the Carol Woods Wednesday Evening Concert series and the Cedars Young Artists Concert series in Chapel Hill, NC.

While a graduate student at UMass, Lindsay designed and taught an undergraduate cello technique course for education majors and taught cello lessons at the University. She also spent two summers teaching lessons, coaching chamber music, and performing as a Teaching Assistant and Teaching Fellow at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan. She received her pedagogy training from Dr. Tanya Carey, celebrated cellist and former president of the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Lindsay currently serves on the faculty of Kidznotes, an El Sistema based music for social change program that provides free music education to kids in the Triangle, runs the cello program at Meredith College Suzuki Strings in Raleigh, and maintains her private studio in Durham.
