Laura G. Azuaje

Laura, originally from Venezuela, began her music studies at the age of seven at the “Vicente Emilio Sojo” Conservatory in her hometown of Barquisimeto. There, she received instruction in music theory, music history, and performance, including solo, symphony, and chamber orchestra. After three years, she became a part of El Sistema, as well as several Venezuelan chamber and professional symphony orchestras, including the renowned Venezuelan Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Laura and her family moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 2009, where she pursued graduate studies at the University of Memphis. She was fortunate to receive an assistantship and graduated with a Master’s degree in Cello Performance from the renowned Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. Additionally, she attended the Chicago Suzuki Institute, the Greater Austin Suzuki Institute, and the Dallas Suzuki Institute completing her Suzuki training in Cello and also receiving training in Suzuki in the Schools. Since 2012, Laura has dedicated much of her time to teaching. During her stay in Memphis, she taught at a small private studio and at the Bellevue School of Performing Arts.

In 2015, upon relocating to Katy, Texas, Laura opened her private studio, where she taught students of varying ages and skill levels. Her students achieved remarkable success, consistently placing them in regional and all-state competitions. Under Laura’s guidance, her students progressed from Pre-Twinkle to Level 10 and even beyond. Laura also regularly facilitated ASTACAP tests for her students, which are organized by the American String Teachers Association.

In 2022, Laura and her family moved to Northern Colorado, where she currently works as a music teacher in the Poudre School District. She initiated the Harris Suzuki String Program, which offers lessons in violin, viola, and cello in a bilingual setting for elementary kids. In 2023 Laura completed her MBA in Arts and Innovation from the Global Leaders Institute. For Laura, teaching is not just a profession, but an opportunity to inspire and educate children about the beauty of music and how it facilitates communication. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.
