Kay was born into a musical family and started her early music training at age 3 at the Yamaha and Suzuki music schools. Her musical passion extended not only to classical music but also Jazz and Latin. She earned her BA from Osaka College of Music, her MM from Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School with additional studies at the Aspen Music School. As a Suzuki teacher, she studied with Cathy Hargrave, JaneReed,Fay Adams, and Joan Krzywicki while being inspired by Nancy Modell’s Suzuki/Taubmann approach. She is currently studying the Taubman approach with Sondra Tammam
and continues taking Suzuki training at School for Strings under tutelage of Marina Obukvsky. She is active member of ASCAP, NMFC, NGPT, MEANJ, PTCNY and PMTGNJ. Her students range from age two to ninety-nine and she enjoys working with special needs students. She has received numerous teacher’s awards including the National Honor Award, Piano Teacher Hall of Fame from American College of Musicians, and the Highest Score Award from ABRSM (Associate Board of Royal School of Music). Besides teaching, Kay is also working as a music director at Reformed Church Oradell, Paramus Congregational Church, Mission Church, and as a music therapist at New Bridge Medical Center. Her hobbies include painting, playing golf, and traveling.
