Mrs. Katomi Furusawa

I have been enjoying music through going to music college, teaching piano, and attending the violin lessons of my children. Music is one of my passions and I would like to help children experience the beauty of music.

One of the difficulties in teaching music is to develop both musicality and technical skill in an effective but fun way. Although reading notes is an important part of learning music, sometimes there is a danger of piano lessons being limited to developing notes reading skill at the expense of musicality and technical skill. I am also convinced through my experiences as a teacher and a mother that key to success in teaching music is the involvement of parents.

For these reasons, I found that the philosophy and method of Suzuki speak like my own words. My mentors include Mrs. Nightingale Chen, Mrs. Diana Galindo, and Mrs. Rita Hauck.

The Suzuki Association provides teachers and students with endless opportunities to progress and challenge. There are summer camps in many major cities for children to participate (the closest to Stillwater is Dallas).

I meet at least once with a student and his/her parents who are interested, to explain the Suzuki method and to provide free sample lessons.

I also enjoy painting and drawing in my spare time.
