Katie House
Violin Teacher
Katie House is a violin teacher and freelance performer who grew up as a Suzuki kid, playing violin from age 5, and piano from age 8. Katie graduated with a degree in violin performance from Luther College, followed by a Masters of Music in violin pedagogy and literature from the University of Texas at Austin. While in graduate school, Katie worked as a member of the University of Texas String Project, learning vital teaching techniques in a hands-on Suzuki program to help teachers gain experience while continuing their teacher training.
Katie spent many years teaching abroad, including four years teaching in Ireland at Rye Rhythm Music School, and has experience with both RIAM (Royal Irish Academy of Music) and ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal School of Music) exam systems. Students were prepared for exams using both Suzuki repertoire and performance books provided by the exam boards. Katie had repeated students achieve best of center awards in the Dublin RIAM exam center.
While in Ireland, Katie was a member of Ensemble Maynooth, a chamber group representing the faculty and friends of the NUIM Music Department. She also has been involved with many new music performances in the Dublin area, including being a founding member of Soundset Ensemble.
Katie was lucky enough to live in Singapore for a year following her adventures in Ireland. While there, she taught violin lessons privately and took the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification Course. The anatomy knowledge is extremely useful for violin playing and teaching, and provides more understanding into ergonomic violin set up and setting the foundations for stretching routines for all students.
Katie’s studio strives to create a community of inclusion through individual lessons, group classes, and community performances.
