Kathleen Spring, a 1974 graduate of Walla Walla University, has also studied at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Vienna with Eduard Melkus and with Alan Bodman at Washington State University. She received a M.Mus. in Violin performance with James Maurer from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver.
Honors include the ASTA Outstanding Studio Teacher Award for Washington State,1996. Con Brio, her Jr. Hi. string ensemble performed at the Washington MENC convention, 1998. Her violin studio performance group, Spring Strings, performs regularly in the Denver metro area and has participated studio exchange tours with both Swiss and Belgian Suzuki students in Switzerland during 2021 and 2012.
A registered Teacher Trainer, Kathleen teaches workshops the US, has guest taught in both Europe and Asia. She teaches Suzuki Violin Pedagogy in the long-term Suzuki Pedagogy Program at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. The fall of 2021 Kathleen stepped down from active studio teaching and turned the directorship of Primavera Place: A Suzuki Music School over to Autumn Pepper. She will retire from teaching the Suzuki violin pedagogy at Lamont, the summer of 2022.
Her publication, Bunny Ballads, a Pre-Twinkle book was published for violin in 2015 with versions for viola and cello following. The book continues to be loved by children and teachers, and a version in German will be available this year.
Kathleen currently resides in Switzerland teaching a handful of students and enjoying workshop and institute teaching.
