Ms. June R. Turner
Flute Teacher
I took my first training in 1977 with Takahashi-sensei in San Francisco and was an original member of the Heart of America Suzuki Teachers Association. I have taught Suzuki flute lessons almost continuously since that time: in Kansas City (1977-84), Austin (TX) (1984-2001, 2012-2019), and Titusville (FL) (2001-2012). I have just moved to the Madison, WI area.
I have served a number of times as a clinician at the TX Flute Society’s annual festival, where my students won many accolades over more than a decade. Several of my students were also asked to perform at the National Flute Association convention in Dallas in 2001. In Florida, I was a member of the Space Coast Flute Orchestra, the International Flute Orchestra, the Florida Flute Orchestra, and was the secretary of the board of the Florida Flute Association for 3 years. I have given two presentations at the Florida Flute Association convention on Suzuki methodology and had an article on the importance of group lessons published in the Suzuki Journal. For a number of years in the 80’s and 90’s, I organized annual weekend workshops for my students with Kenichi Ueda as guest teacher, and in 2003, I organized a program for young flutists in central Florida to rehearse and perform with James Galway in Orlando.
My major flute studies were with James Hamilton and Mary Posses at the U. of Missouri-Kansas City, where I also did master’s level work in music history.
