Ms. Janet Toomes
Piano Teacher
Janet Toomes has actively taught piano for over 20 years in the Washington, DC area and San Antonio, TX. A former member of SAGWA (Suzuki Association of the Washington, DC Area), she has registered Suzuki Teacher training with the SAA for Books 1a, 1b, 2, 3 and 4 plus other coursework in Parent Education. Ms. Toomes studied Suzuki pedagogy and parent education with Jeanne Leudke, Valerie Lloyd-Watts, Sue Vasquez and Michiko Yurko (author of Music Mind Games). Additionally, she did advanced piano performance studies with Anthony Kooiiker and Brian Ganz and received pedagogy training from the Levine School in Washington, DC. Janet Toomes Suzuki Piano Studio offers individual lessons plus monthly group theory (games) and performance classes. Her students perform in recitals and local music club competitions. She teaches Suzuki parent education classes as a prerequisite to training young Suzuki students. In addition to teaching piano, Ms. Toomes worked in major symphony orchestra management with the National Symphony, Houston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and most recently was Orchestra Personnel Manager for the San Antonio Symphony until the organization dissolved June of 2022. She is also busy as piano accompanist for local Suzuki Violin studio classes, recitals and other instrumental or choral groups in the San Antonio, TX area.
