Ingrid Popp

Biography
Ingrid Popp is currently a freelance violist in the St. Louis area and teaches violin/viola at the Webster University Community Music School (Both the Faust Park and Webster Groves Locations) in St. Louis. She is also an adjunct faculty member of violin/viola at Missouri Baptist University.
In 2013 she completed her Master of Music degree in viola performance and a Post-baccalaureate certificate in music education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In 2009 she graduated summa cum laude with her B.M. degree in viola performance from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where she studied viola with Joanna Mendoza and Robert Meyer, and chamber music with the Arianna String Quartet. She has completed Suzuki teacher training through book 8 and plans to complete more training in the future.
She has over fifteen years of experience as a violin and viola instructor and has taught students from age 4 to adult. Her students have frequently been chosen to participate in their school honor groups as well as district/all-state orchestras and local youth and community orchestras. Ingrid is also an active performer and is currently Principal Violist with the Alton Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Webster University Orchestra, and an active freelance performer. She has previously been a member of the Western Piedmont Symphony of North Carolina, a guest soloist with the Town and Country Symphony, and has been an active freelance performer in both Greensboro, NC and the St. Louis area. From 2009-2013 she was employed as a resident advisor for the High School division of the Brevard Music Center where she performed with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra.

Teaching Philosophy
I believe that the number one goal of music instruction is to foster a life-long love of music in every student. Each student is an individual with different goals, interests, and learning styles. As a private instructor, I have the luxury of being able to adapt my teaching style and curriculum to allow each student to reach their full potential and achieve their personal goals. This differentiation is fundamental to my approach to instruction. I believe that an important goal of effective instruction is to help each student to eventually become his or her own teacher. I often ask questions that help guide the student towards self-assessment, problem solving, and efficient and effective practice techniques. I fundamentally believe that each and every student is capable of achieving the highest level of musical excellence and that natural talent is far less important than the desire, motivation, and commitment required for musical achievement.
