Hollie Greenwood

Hollie Greenwood is currently pursuing her Master’s degree as an Albert C. Yates Fellow with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where she studies with Rachel Calin. She recently completed her undergraduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) with Scott Dixon. She received her Suzuki Certification with Dr. Kate Jones through the Gifted Music School and the Greater Austin Suzuki Institute where she has also served on the faculty. Additionally, Hollie has also served as a substitute instructor for Tracy Rowell at the CIM Sato Center for Suzuki Studies. In addition to running her own private studio, Hollie is establishing herself as an educator in the Cincinnati community through her positions as the bass instructor with 4-Way Quartet’s after-school program at Norwood Middle School, teaching artist with the Ben Carlson-Berne Foundation, and substitute bass instructor with El-Sistema inspired program, MYCincinnati. Starting in 2023, she will also serve as a coach for the Nouveau Program, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s free chamber music program for underrepresented youth in classical music. She also teaches sectionals and group classes for other local Cincinnati schools in need of supplementary bass education. Hollie has also received certification in the Orff and Kodaly methods as well as trauma-informed education practices.

As a freelance performer, Hollie has played with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, the Suburban Symphony Orchestra, the True North Chamber Orchestra, OPUS 216, and the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra as their principal bass. She has also attended the Interlochen Arts Camp, the Brevard Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and the National Music Festival. She is also an avid new music supporter. To date, Hollie has premiered 3 new solo bass and chamber works in partnership with Cincinnati new music collective with whom she is a core member, New Downbeat, as well as with Bass Players for Black Composers at the International Society of Bassists Convention in 2023. Hollie is a founding member of CIM’s Black Student Union and served as President of the organization for 3 years. She continues her passion for student leadership through heading the CCM Double Bass Club and Black Student Association. Hollie has a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion and creating more accessibility within the arts and especially within Suzuki/early childhood music education is one of her biggest goals as a teacher.
