Hannah Yang

Hannah Yang is an elementary orchestra teacher in the Iowa City School District, as well as a private violin (Suzuki), viola (Suzuki), cello and piano teacher. Hannah graduated from the University of Iowa in 2016 with a degree in violin performance and a certificate in k-12 music education with an emphasis in orchestra. She studied under Dr. Scott Conklin, and is an accomplished violinist, pianist and violist. Her previous instructors include Christie Felsing (violin), Lauree Christman (piano), Mr. Wiliam Preucil Sr. (viola), and Gloria Galask (voice). She has studied chamber music under Elizabeth Oakes, the Maia Quartet, Mr. William Preucil Sr., the Cavani, Aeolus, Jupiter and the JACK quartets, as well as with many Preucil School of Music teachers. In the 20-21 school year, Hannah was awarded the Iowa String Teachers Association (ISTA) Linda Jones Emerging Teacher of the Year. She was a four- year member of the Iowa All-State Orchestra in high school, as well as a member of the All-State Chamber Orchestra for three years. In both ensembles, she was principal second violin her junior year and first violin the other years. Also in high school, Hannah traveled with the internationally known Preucil School String Orchestra to Austria where the orchestra performed throughout the country. She was a member of the Espressivo Strings violin performing group at Preucil School of Music, and traveled with them to Kansas City in the spring of 2011 to perform as guest artists for the American String Teacher’s Association national meeting.

Since 2008 she has run a small home studio, teaching students ages four through adults both violin and piano lessons. This is her fourth year as an elementary orchestra teacher after 1 year teaching general music and elementary band. She loves to work with kids!
Hannah has gone through official Suzuki training for violin books 1-5 and 7.
