Mr. Goran Berg

Göran Berg is a celebrated music educator, violinist, violist, and orchestra conductor with 35 years experience teaching violin and viola to students of all ages on two continents. He is an internationally known pedagogue, publisher, consultant, and author. He has taught at institutes and workshops throughout the US and Europe. He received his B.M. (Violin Pedogogy) at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm University, and his M.M. (Suzuki overview of books 6—10) at the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville as a student of renowned Suzuki pioneer, Professor John D. Kendall.

After seventeen years working in Swedish public music schools north of Stockholm, both as a teacher and administrator, Mr. Berg currently resides since 20 years in the San Francisco Bay Area where he owns and operates the Sycamore Strings Academy in Livermore, CA. In 2006, he started the Suzuki Program at Crowden Music Center in Berkeley, California. He is now its director.

Throughout his career, Mr. Berg has collected and arranged Scandinavian folk music for violins, violas, cellos, and string ensembles. His collections of Scandinavian music arrangements, Fiddle Heart, volumes 1, 2, & 3 are published by his company Fiddle Heart Publications, www.fiddleheartmusic.com

Mr. Berg has two books published by Alfred Publications. One is Eclectic Strings, a collection of internationally flavored music. In this book, Mr. Berg presents a wide assortment of compositions and arrangements for strings and piano based on music from India, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Germany, and Austria. The second book is Violins go Vivaldi. It contains two arrangements for four violins, solo or group, with optional piano/harpsichord. The arrangements are of Vivaldi’s Concerto The Summer, Op. 8:2, mvt. 3, and Concerto Grosso in d minor Op. 3:11, mvt. 1.
