Mrs. Gloriana Sewell
Piano Teacher, Administrator
I took the Suzuki training at Ithaca College with Carole Bigler and Valery Lloyd-Watts in 1974 as soon as I heard it was available, and I have continued my training with a variety of teachers and artists in both Suzuki and traditional venues. My first Suzuki student was my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter who is now teaching with me in our studio in Pennsylvania. Currently my four grandsons study with me.
I direct a music studio in Milford Square, PA, where we have 4 teachers in our piano and Kindermusik programs, and about 90 students. A least a third of our students started in our Kindermusik program as infants, toddlers and preschoolers, and 2 of our teachers are licensed to teach Kindermusik.
I have explored other venues, such as the National Piano Teachers Guild and the Music Teachers National Association, as the students advance and enjoy the additional performing experiences. Our teachers are active in the Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association where we have held offices and planned Enrichment Day workshops and fundraisers. Our teachers have held and hold offices and chairperson positions in the Lehigh Valley Music Teachers Association and in the PA Music Teachers Association. Our students take part in their field trips, auditions, competitions and Playathons. We have had winners in the competitions in performance and composition, including national winners in composition and division winners in performance.
All our teachers love teaching Suzuki piano, and we make every effort to motivate and inspire both students and parents in this wonderful method. We meet regularly with the parents, and our students enjoy both private lessons and group lessons with their peers.
