Ms. Gay Galvin
Piano Teacher
Gay began improvising on her first toy piano around the age of 3. She eventually got a real piano and lessons. Her undergrad studies in Music Education were at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and her masters is in Piano Performance in Jazz from the University of Toledo. She began her Suzuki studies in Columbus, Ohio in 1993 with Mary Craig Powel finally finishing book 7 in 2014! She taught at the Blue Lake Suzuki Family camp for fourteen years. Eight years ago she moved her Suzuki/Jazz teaching studio from Toledo, Ohio to Marysville, California.
Although she is now a full-time piano teacher and performer, she has also spent many years teaching general music and band in public and parochial schools. Her professional improvising includes playing with her own jazz trio, several big bands and she even played in a jug band! She performs with her own jazz trio (The Gay Galvin Trio) and was the founding director of the Yuba Sutter Big Band. She also directs the Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture Children’s Choir. As a natural outgrowth of her love of jazz, she teaches improvisation in addition to Suzuki and traditional Classical music.
