Ms. Diana R. Nuttall

Cellist Diana Nuttall lived and studied with Dr Suzuki in Matsumoto Japan in 1991 after having apprenticed for two years with the first Japanese teacher to stay in North America, Yoko Oike Wong. She had done a practicum with the famous American Suzuki Cellist, Tanya Carey. Diana received her Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Calgary, a Certificate in Adult Education from University of Alberta, and has studied Philosophy of Language and Language Learning at a Master’s Level. Her articles on teaching and music reading have been widely published. Many of her past students are having wonderful careers throughout Canada and the United States. She is in demand internationally, as a clinician from Montreal to Vancouver, from Vegas to Victoria. Diana was the cellist in Trio con Brio for eight years, with Yoco Wong, the first Japanese Suzuki violin teacher to come to Canada in 1965. As a performer, Diana has explored many alternative genres: Latin Music, Blue Grass and Pop. She hass written beginning reading books and developed extra materials for beginning students in her Rising to Twinkle book, written duos, trios, quartets and multi-levels ensemble arrangements for cellos that her students love to play. Recently she has completed the first workbook in a series, integrating reading with music dictation to help the motor, visual and auditory associations needed to become a great music reader.
