Violin Teacher
Dawn Posey maintains an active and varied performing, teaching, and coaching career. She is currently Concertmaster of the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra in Bellingham, WA and Assistant Concertmaster of the Northwest Sinfonietta in Tacoma, WA. She also teaches violin and coaches musicians of all instruments.
Dawn has held the positions of principal second violin with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra and associate principal second violin with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with the Boston Conservatory Honors Quartet, Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Dawn’s performances have taken her around the world, including Festival A Tempo in Caracas, Venezuela, the Chamber Music Festival of Amman, Jordan, Blossom Music Festival in Ohio, and Tanglewood Music Center in Boston. She has been featured as a soloist with orchestras in Missouri, Indiana, and England, and has worked with Daniel Barenboim, Herbert Blomstedt, and Lukas Foss in principal roles. Her diverse musical background includes performances with Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and The Who.
Dawn is a devotee of baroque performance practice and has been a frequent guest artist with Chatham Baroque, including tours to Ecuador and Los Angeles. In 2015, she participated in the world-renowned training program, Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute.
Dawn is a founding member of two chamber music ensembles, Kassia Ensemble and Jade Trio. Kassia Ensemble is made up entirely of female performers and seeks to empower women through quality performance, collaboration, diverse programming, and outreach.
Dawn received the Starling Scholarship at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where her primary teacher was Dr. Won-Bin Yim. She has also studied with the late renowned string pedagogue, Miss Dorothy Delay, at Aspen Music Festival, Lynn Chang at the Boston Conservatory, Mrs. Almita Vamos in Chicago, and with concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Dawn has been a member of the violin faculty at the Sherwood Conservatory, Merit School of Music, University of Evansville, St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Slippery Rock University, and the Pittsburgh Music Academy. In Evansville, she was the second violinist with the Eykamp String Quartet and Associate Concertmaster with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also served as assistant concertmaster with both the Youngstown Symphony and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
Dawn currently lives in Seattle, WA where she is a frequent substitute with the Seattle Symphony. She also continues to perform with Kassia Ensemble and several other chamber ensembles. For more information please visit www.poseyviolin.com
