Bernini Chan

Born in New Zealand and raised in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Ms. Chan brings an international perspective to her burgeoning career as a violinist and educator. An uncommonly versatile violinist, Ms. Chan performs with a wide array of ensembles, including symphony orchestras, baroque and contemporary music ensembles, and operatic productions.

Passionate about teaching and passing musical knowledge to the next generation, Ms. Chan currently serves as violin faculty at the Community Arts Academy at University of Houston, the DePaul Community Music Division, and runs a private teaching studio as well. Trained in both traditional and Suzuki pedagogy and registered in Suzuki Books 1 to 6, Ms. Chan is an experienced educator with beginners through advanced-level students of all ages. A strong advocate for the importance of music and the arts in people’s lives, Ms. Chan is dedicated to helping each individual student develop their musical voice while gaining discipline, critical thinking, resilience, learning agility, and collaborative skills.

Ms. Chan earned her Bachelor’s from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and received a full grant to pursue her Master’s at DePaul University School of Music. Upon graduating with high distinction, she continued for a Performance Certificate at DePaul under the tutelage of Dr. I-Hao Lee. In Fall 2021, Ms. Chan began her doctorate studies in violin performance and arts leadership at the University of Houston where she was awarded the College of the Arts Graduate Tuition Fellowship and the Moores School of Music Scholarship, and a teaching assistant position in Musicology.
