Violin, Viola Teacher
Barbara Greenberg After receiving her B.A. in Music Education, Barbara took the two year teacher training course in Suzuki violin with Louise Behrend at The School for Strings, completing it in 1977. She has taken subsequent training with numerous teachers such as Miss Mori, John Kendall, Helen Brunner, Ronda Cole, and Linda Case. Other pedagogy teachers have been Mimi Zweig and teachers trained by Paul Rolland. She studied Alexander Technique and Body Mapping with Barbara Conable, Heather Buchanan and Jennifer Johnson. Having recovered from injury, she brings a personal perspective on body issues to her playing and teaching.
Barbara directed the West Windsor-Plainsboro Community Education Suzuki Program for 24 years, one of two Suzuki programs that she has created in Central NJ. She has also taught and directed the Suzuki Program at Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, NJ. She has been clinician for and co-directed numerous weekend workshops and is currently assistant director of the NJ Suzuki Workshop. She has taught at the Ithaca Suzuki Institute.
In 2010 and 2011 she presented at the national ASTA Conference on violin and viola set ups, with emphasis on the needs of younger students. Barbara has been quoted in STRINGS magazine on instrument sizing and chinrest/shoulder pad set up. She currently works with Frisch and Denig Chinrests fitting violinists and violist of all ages and specializing in fitting children.
Active as a fiddler for contra and English Country dance, Barbara has performed in the U.S, U.K. and Europe and has recorded 7 albums of dance music.
