Anna Maria Ventura has been a Suzuki student for over 35 years, a Suzuki teacher for 15 years and a Suzuki parent for 10 years.

Mrs. Ventura began taking lessons at the age of 6, at a public school Suzuki Violin program in Puerto Rico. She graduated from Escuela Libre de Música high school and attended the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where she majored in violin performance and studied with renowned violinists Jaime Medina and Jose “Pepito” Figueroa. During her sophomore year, University of Miami violin professor Thomas Moore auditioned and subsequently offered her a full tuition scholarship, to attend the University of Miami and study with him. While at the University of Miami, she also studied with Violin Professor Glenn Basham until she completed her BA degree in 1996.

Anna is an active performer and is featured in various commercial recordings. She contracts chamber ensembles and performs as a soloist for her company, Eleganza Strings (www.eleganzastrings.net).

Mrs. Ventura has been a member of orchestras such as Symphony of the Americas, The Miami Symphony, Palm Beach Pops, Florida Chamber Orchestra and Epcot Center’s All American College Orchestra, among others. She also performs for musicals throughout the Miami-Dade and Broward county areas.

Anna was a Miami Dade County middle school orchestra teacher for 6 years until her first child was born. She has since taught privately from her home studio, as well as worked as a string orchestra consultant for various area schools and conservatories. She has held various positions on the board of the Suzuki Association of South Florida since 2016 and Co-chairs the SASF’s annual fall workshop at the Frost School of Music in Miami.

Mrs. Ventura completed her music education courses at Florida International University and has been a certified Dade County K-12 music teacher since 1999. She has completed the Every Child Can! Course with Dr. Timothy Durbin, Violin 1 book training with Carrie Reuning-Hummel, Violin book 2 training with Ann Montzka-Smelser, Violin book 3 with Amanda Schubert and Violin book 4 with Kimberly Meier-Sims. Anna believes that every child can learn to play the violin, with the nurturing and positive approach found at the heart of the Suzuki method.
