Reflections on the Advancement of the Suzuki Method in Santiago de Cuba: How the dream of two violin teachers became reality

Pierre Yves Gagnon, born in Montreal, Quebec, is fluent in French and English. He is an experienced viola and violin Suzuki teacher living in Oakville, Ontario. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Viola Performance from the University of McGill, and a Masters degree in Viola Performance and Literature from the University of Western Ontario. He was a member of L’Orchestre des Jeunes du Québec and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada as well as principal violist of the Canadian Chamber Orchestra in Banff.
He first started his Suzuki training units at the first Suzuki institute in Guelph, Ontario in 1983 and since, he has completed all ten violin units as well as viola units 4 to 9. He has been a teaching violin and viola for the Oakville Suzuki Association for the past thirty years and has recently been appointed Suzuki viola teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with the mandate of starting a Suzuki viola program.
He is currently a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators’ Association as well as a core member of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra.
