Tara Iyer is a tenth grade student at Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose, California. She has been playing the violin for thirteen years under the tutelage of Diane Egli, and enjoys being a first violinist in the California Youth Symphony. In 2013, Tara achieved post-graduate level performance recognition from the Suzuki Association of Northern California, and won the Music Teachers’ Association of California’s statewide Panel competition. When she’s not playing the violin, Tara enjoys teaching music appreciation classes at her local elementary school and volunteering doing music therapy for special needs students. She is also an avid writer, and her articles have appeared multiple times in print in the San Jose Mercury News. In the future, Tara hopes to maintain her involvement in music by continuing her violin studies throughout high school and college.
