Colleen Fitzgerald is a violin teacher trainer for the SAA and executive director of the Barcel Suzuki String Academy in Wauwatosa, WI, where she currently teaches violin and Suzuki Early Childhood Education classes. Ms. Fitzgerald earned a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance with Suzuki pedagogy emphasis at the University of Evansville and a Master of Arts in teaching degree from Cardinal Stritch University. Colleen was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Studio Teaching from the Civic Music Association (2006) and earned the Certificate of Achievement Level One from the SAA (2017). Colleen has been featured on TV and radio programs and the Beyond the Music Lesson podcast discussing the Suzuki Method. Colleen is a clinician at Suzuki workshops and summer Suzuki institutes. Besides teaching, Colleen enjoys playing in her church’s handbell choir.
Julia Murphy currently teaches the Barcel Babies class for the Barcel Suzuki String Academy, a music experience for children ages 0 to 4 years of age with an adult. In preparation to teach this class she has completed Suzuki Early Childhood Education Levels I, II, and III. She began teaching this class in the fall of 2015. Ms. Murphy earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in music therapy and in general music education as well as a graduate degree in administrative leadership. She has been employed as a music teacher and music therapist in the Elmbrook School District and by the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Ms. Murphy experienced the Suzuki method firsthand as the parent of two children who graduated from the BSSA program. She serves as a collaborative pianist for students currently in the program and also assists with various administrative duties related to the BSSA organization.
