Doris Harrel, 2014

Doris Harrel passed away April 5, 2020, in Austin, Texas, of complications of pneumonia (not the current virus). She was 93 years old. Doris was an SAA piano teacher trainer and long-time member of the SAA Piano Publications Committee.

She touched the lives of countless students and teachers with her love of music and her love of teaching. She was married to her husband Ralph for fifty-six years and they often performed together as a piano duo. She welcomed her beloved students and teacher trainees into her home in San Marcos, Texas, and she also taught at institutes and workshops around the world. She was sharing the message of the music with students and teachers until the age of 90. Doris was truly a bright light in the Suzuki Piano world, and she leaves behind an amazing and beautiful legacy.

Planning for a memorial service celebrating her life is on hold pending the resolution of the coronavirus situation. A full obituary will be published in a forthcoming issue of the American Suzuki Journal.
