James Maurer

James Maurer, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the University of Southern California, was a student of Ivan Galamian. He has been a prizewinner in many competitions including the Munich International String Quartet Competition, the Coleman Chamber Music Competition, the Dealy Award, and the New Orleans Philharmonic Young Artist Competition.

Maurer has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras, has performed throughout the United States in solo and chamber music concerts, and has made several chamber music recordings. An experienced clinician and adjudicator, Maurer has taught many workshops in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

He was the Founder and Director the Denver Suzuki Institute and the Denver Talent Education Program. He has served as Chair and Treasurer of the SAA Board of Directors, Secretary of the ISA, and President of the Suzuki Association of Colorado.

He is retired from his position as Professor of Violin and Chair of the String Department at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music.
