LaDonna Smith is Director of Birmingham Suzuki Violinists SAA, MENC and ASTA. Her specialty is extended technique and music improvisation. Her students travelled to Japan and performed in the National Suzuki Concert in Tokyo. She served on the ASTA Delegation of String Teachers in China. She served on the faculty of Central Pennsylvania Suzuki Institute teaching violin, viola, jazz, and free improvisation. Considered a pioneer of free improvisation in America, and Board member of the International Society of Improvised Music, she has passionately sought to raise the art of improvisation to the level of classic composition. As a solo artist, she has toured North America, Europe, and Asia. Her music is documented on dozens of CD and LP recordings.
