Ideas for Suzuki Parents

Janelle Severson grew up in Stevens Point, WI as a Suzuki kid in the 1980s. She holds a BME from the University of Minnesota where she studied violin with Mark Bjork and a MME with an emphasis on Suzuki Pedagogy, also receiving long-term training from Patricia D’Ercole at UW-Stevens Point. Janelle has been the director of Severson Suzuki Strings in Eau Claire, WI (2002-2014) and now Waunakee, WI (2014- ) where she has been a free-lance violinist and serving as an orchestra board member. Janelle served as the Vice President/President-Elect for the Suzuki Association of Wisconsin and was honored as a 2018 Sensei Leadership Award recipient for “Leadership and Caring.”  Janelle has been invited as a guest clinician and to teach at workshops and institutes throughout the United States and has been on the faculty at the American Suzuki Institute since 2002.   Janelle was pleased to be the ASI Strings Coordinator from 2019 to 2021.
