S Daniel Swaim

Dr. Daniel Swaim, Professor Emeritus of Double Bass, Arizona State University, has taught at the collegiate level for four decades. He earned degrees from Cincinnati-College-Conservatory of Music, Indiana University, and the University of North Texas. He has played in the Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, and Wichita Symphony Orchestras.

In 1993, he became the first SAA Bass Teacher Trainer, and he was appointed Chair of the SAA ad hoc Bass Committee.

Dr. Swaim is well known as a presenter at many conferences for the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA), the Music Educator’s National Conference, the International Society of Bassists, and the American String Teachers Association. On the international level, he was honored to serve as faculty of the double bass course at the 13th World Suzuki Method Conference, Matsumoto and Tokyo, Japan in 1999; and the 16th Suzuki Method World Convention in Matsumoto in 2013.
