Marta Hernandez
Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Marta Hernández holds a bachelor’s degree in viola performance, a Master’s in String Pedagogy from Temple University, a second Master’s degree in Music Therapy from Illinois State University; and a PhD in Music Education from University of Granada, Spain. Marta has taken Suzuki training through Book 8, received her Suzuki Early Childhood training in Lima, Perú and the Suzuki Practicum with Teri Einfeldt at the Chicago Institute. Marta is on the faculty of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, teaching undergraduate and graduate Music Education courses. She also performs as a substitute violist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. Marta first taught at the University Puerto Rico Elementary Laboratory school where she initiated a Suzuki program and was also the Academic Coordinator for the Suzuki Program at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. She is an active member of Fundación Gisela and is the artistic director of Asociación Suzuki de Violin de Puerto Rico, both are not-for-profit organizations dedicated to foster parent education, Suzuki workshops and teacher training in the Caribbean.
