We Are Suzuki: Embracing the Vision

Emma Pease-Byron’s conference nano session is a creative example of how to use humor and images to reach students with differing learning styles. Drawing upon ideas from the popular children’s book The Pout Pout Fish, this video provides effective strategies for teaching efficient body use and having a productive lesson. Her innovative thoughts are applicable to any instrument.

Be sure to watch for the upcoming American Suzuki Journal vol. 44 no. 4, which will contain more conference reports. If you are not currently an SAA member, we encourage you to join the SAA—the official organization for Suzuki education. You’ll connect to a larger community of teachers and parents, and receive the quarterly American Suzuki Journal.

Suzuki Principles in Action course

What better way to kick-start your fall semester than enrolling in the Suzuki Principles in Action course? This two-day course is cross instrumental and is designed to help teachers incorporate Suzuki’s principles effectively into their teaching. SPA focuses upon how to teach, not what to teach. It is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability. The inspiration for SPA came from a need, identified by both Trainers and Teacher Workshop Participants, to deal with the challenges of implementing the knowledge gained from unit courses into the reality of day-to-day studio teaching. Read more about the course itself, plus learn how to host a course. Watch for fall courses being posted soon!
