Dear Suzuki Flute colleagues, We have work to do! Many of us have longed for updated recordings… some of us for a very long time. We would like to be able to make that happen, but there is a preliminary step that needs to be taken care of to ensure that our recordings reflect our real expectations for our students. For this preliminary step, the Suzuki flute community needs YOUR help. Our printed materials have many errors which need to be corrected, including missing dots or accidentals as well as wrong notes. If you are frustrated by articulations or details in the text, please feel free to comment on this also – the teacher trainer group, including the ESA flute teachers, will be reviewing the collected material for accuracy and compiling the final corrections. Please help with this project by picking up a book and examining it for errors. (Most of us have already marked things in our own copies as we have come across them. Please take note of such markings and carefully review the whole book for any others. Please also check piano parts and ensemble books as well as the repertoire books.) Send your observations to Laurel Ann Maurer at lamaurer@sisna.com. We would like to receive all of the corrections by May 27th 2011 so that they can be reviewed as part of the flute activities at the leadership retreat. Flute at the Leadership Retreat Please plan to attend the leadership retreat. Your suggestions and contributions regarding the future of the Suzuki flute community are needed. Planned discussions for the Suzuki flute break-out sessions include the book revisions and a long-term vision for Suzuki flute, including mentoring and communication, and planning of workshops, institutes and training courses. This planning is not limited to teacher trainers and institute directors – to respond to the needs of our teachers and students, we all need to work together.
