OUR SUZUKI COMMUNITY

Teachers, Students, Families, add a little Saint Saëns to your evening fun and enjoyment!

At the SAA’s 18th Conference in Minneapolis, examples of crowning Suzuki achievements were seen in the performances of our student ensembles. Last May’s lineup included Cello Choir, Flute Choir and Performing Ensemble, Viola Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Advanced Violin Performing Ensemble, Suzuki Youth Orchestras of the Americas (SYOA) I & 2, Suzuki Young Artists String Ensemble (SYASE), and Piano Ensemble. See select videos from Conference here.

We are so fortunate to have video productions of many of those events, both for your enjoyment now and for our SAA archives. Recently added to the Conference performance videos on our website is our Piano Ensemble’s production of Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, performed with two pianos and string orchestra conducted by Emmett Drake and narrated by Winifred Crock. Coordinated and coached by Malgosia Lis, the performance was a very special highlight of the weekend. We hope you enjoy watching it!

It is never too early to start planning for the next conference. Student applications will be due in October, 2019, for the 19th Conference, May 21-25, 2020. Watch for guidelines and other details this spring!

Creating the Future Together!: Paving Pathways for Success

Our 13th biennial Leadership Retreat will again be held at Deer Creek Conference Center in Central Ohio, May 23-26, 2019. A relatively small event, the retreat is a friendly, engaging and inspiring gathering of committed Suzuki people. This year’s event will be composed of committee and group work, discussions, some general presentations, and many breakout working sessions. With “Paving Pathways for Success” our theme for this May, we will look at clarifying and strengthening guidelines in some areas of Suzuki education and creating Best Practices guidelines in other aspects of our Suzuki community. Teacher Trainers, Institute Directors, Conference Team (both 2020 and 2022), Chapter Boards and other organizational leaders, and others interested in ensuring that we have clear steps in place to ensure a successful future for Suzuki in the Americas.
